  2. My most important composition Sol del trópico arises as a premonition of enchantment. It is the fruit of constant reflection and doubt about the pre-Hispanic peoples that inhabit our lands. It is also the anthem that one day Gabriela Mistral intoned in her work. This poem invites us to look for the star, and in a minor key, it teaches us the greatness of America.

In 1997 a jury made up of Marcela Rodríguez and Blas Emilio Atehortúa awarded him the National Music Award in the area of composition for vocal soloist for his work Sol del Trópico.

Written for soprano and with five instrumentalists, Sol del Trópico was premiered in the concert hall of the Luis Angel Arango Library on November 18, 1998 by the Carlo Gesualdo Ensemble, conducted by Juan Carlos Rivas and soprano Alexandra Alvarez.
